Description

SAIC is looking for a Client Safety Engineer to support a NASA program. SMAEC II has a rewarding position supporting the NASA Safety and Mission Assurance Engineering Contract (SMAEC II) at the Johnson Space Center in Houston helping to continue our exploration of space. Come join our team and help us continue the mission of space exploration working with Environmental Control and Life Support Systems Engineering.

Job Duties:

  • Performs system safety analyses of hardware and software in a variety of systems for payloads/experiment developers; develops safety data, hazard reports, and other safety documentation, as needed; or provides mentorship for development of all safety data and hazard reports. 
  • Utilizes technical and safety review and documentation analysis techniques to include fault tree analyses, failure modes and hazardous effects analyses, and other techniques, as required.
  • Duties include: Preparing safety assessment/hazard reports, technical data packages, and safety presentation material for NASA safety review panels. Conduct/review safety assessments of new, updated, and/or modified hardware and software, including any waivers/exemption requests/non-conformance reports.

Qualifications

 Required Education: 

BS degree in Engineering or related Science/Technical field (Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred) and 9 years of experience; a Masters and 7 years of experience; or a PhD and 4 years of experience.

Required Skills:

  • 15+ years related experience
  • NASA flight system safety review process experience
  • Experience with direct participation in conducting and documenting human spaceflight system safety reviews
  • Familiarity with the NASA organization and with the International Space Station (ISS) subsystems and components
  • An understanding of system safety hazards analysis process
  • An understanding of NASA Handbook 51721
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop excellent working relationships with customers, peers, and management
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite of Tools to prepare reports, presentations, and charts
  • Knowledge and use of personal computer with typical business software

Clearance: 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
