SAIC is seeking a highly motivated Principal Cloud Engineer to join a dynamic and mission oriented team. The engineer will conceptualize, develop, and implement complex cloud systems designed to meet client requirements. This position is remote. 

The candidate will support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Office of Space Commerce (OSC), requires system integration and cloud management for the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS). The TraCSS will be developed to help relevant US government agencies to begin re-assigning many aspects of space traffic management (STM) and space traffic coordination (STC) serving non-military US space operators.

TraCSS is the Department of Commerce's enterprise solution for ingesting, archiving, processing, and disseminating Space Situational Awareness (SSA) data and products. TraCSS will provide conjunction analysis and warning services to commercial satellite owner/operators to foster economic growth and technological advancement of the U.S. commercial space industry. The system will store data from the Department of Defense (DOD), NOAA, commercial SSA data providers, commercial and civil satellite Owner/Operators (O/O) and select international civil partners.

Job Description: 

  • Assist with planning and engineering the organization’s cloud computing infrastructure and applications, specifically a Software Factory.
  • Providing deep technical troubleshooting for escalated issues that involve the most technically complex or large-scale components and the affected users.
  • Developing and/or using troubleshooting, monitoring, and reporting tools to analyze the root cause of serious and impactful technical issues and building stable and sustainable solutions and improvements.
  • Working closely with Technical Leads to seek solutions for customers and drive tasks toward completion.
  • Driving and improving the whole lifecycle of operational readiness – from inception and design through deployment, operation, and refinement
  • Ensuring that technical solutions are scalable.
  • Developing tools, operational improvements, and automated solutions that enable self- service configuration changes, speed deployments, and improve monitoring in support of mission-critical customer-facing applications and environments.
  • Assisting the software engineering team to ensure accurate monitoring and metrics are built into the applications before deployment to production.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.

Required Experience:

  • BS in Computer Science or related field plus 9 years of experience in a cloud and/or hybrid environment or 8+ years of experience.
  • Experience in designing and deploying cloud solutions to Amazon Web Services (AWS),
  • Strong customer service skills, teaming skills, and the ability to collaborate within a cross-functional team
  • Participating in an on-call rotation
  •  Hands-on experience working with tools and technologies in, at minimum, two of the following areas: software development, configuration control, testing, security, automation, containerization, orchestration, cloud services, open-source technologies.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience with DevSecOps, familiarity with Scrum, and familiarity with and use of issue tracking and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira) for software application and development tracking.
  • Experience developing, deploying and running containerized services using Docker, Kubernetes, and Argo Workflows; supporting authority to operate; using a continuous development, continuous integration pipeline; tracking and documentation.
  • Experience using VPCs, S3, IAM, EC2, Lambda, CloudWatch, Directory Services and SSM
  • Ability to program in Python and experience having written Lambda functions

Citizenship: 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. 

Target salary range: $100,001 - $125,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
