UFS is a fully coupled earth system model including atmosphere, land, ocean, ice, wave, and aerosol components. UFS is configured for different operational and research applications which cover a variety of temporal and spatial scales. The candidate will work in the EMC Physics and Dynamics Division at the NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction (NCWCP) in College Park, MD.

Job Description:

  • Maintain and improve the accuracy and efficiency of radiative transfer modules used by UFS applications.
  • Improve the accuracy and efficiency of radiation-cloud and radiation-aerosol coupling in UFS applications.
  • Transition from the community advancements in radiative transfer techniques to NCEP operation, including code implementation and performance assessment in UFS applications.
  • Work within a team to improve the interactions between radiation and other physics processes.
  • Collaborate with community developers to advance radiative transfer techniques for weather and climate modeling across scales.
