Senior Principal Systems Engineer

SAIC seeks a highly experienced and energetic Systems Engineer to support the US Space Force, Space Systems Command, in performing operational maintenance and sustainment of ground-based radars critical to US and Allied strategic missile surveillance, warning, defense, and space surveillance missions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

• Support system engineering transition and integration planning for space, ground, hardware, software, and fixed site ground system
• Leverage enterprise systems engineering and integration processes to manage operational transition and fielding of enterprise space and ground system capabilities
• Coordinate and execute Transition to Operations activities including developmental capability, hardware, software, cybersecurity, and network upgrades
• Provide technical oversight to transition and integration of hardware, software, cybersecurity, and network modifications focused on preventing impacts to operations
• Conduct planning and scheduling analyses to manage risk and ensure proper levels of margin are incorporated
• Interact with the prime contractor and government project engineers to ensure system requirements are coordinated, planned, and scheduled for implementation.
• Perform technical reviews and assessments; coordinating analysis efforts, methods, and techniques; developing products and briefings; performing technical engagement with, and briefings for and to, government customers, stakeholders, and the prime contractor
• Identify operational and technical issues, evaluating solutions and advising Government customer on possible Courses of Action (COAs)
• Develop program baseline including coordination between ground systems and space systems, in support of achieving program objectives, user needs and design milestones
• Define and verify innovative solutions to complex mission critical problems
• Integrate activities over the lifecycle of systems in support of common mission areas to include pre-contractual, development and production, as well as operations and sustainment

• Bachelors and fourteen (14) years or more experience; Masters and twelve (12) years or more experience; PhD or JD and nine (9) years or more experience in system engineering and integration
• Experience with risk and opportunity management for space, ground, operations and sustainment segments of DoD, NSA, or NRO programs
• Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI 
• Knowledge of operations transition processes, development lifecycle, project integration and schedule analysis
• Experience with operational capability transitions and fielding of complex satellite and ground systems. 
• Demonstrated experience working with Air Force/DoD customers in an acquisition environment, with space and/or ground systems 
• Experience supporting design reviews, engineering boards, and developing transition to ops plans
• Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings
