SAIC is seeking a Database Engineer (DBE) to join our dynamic team that is committed to applying their vast experience to provide natural resource conservation practices, in support of Federal and State agencies, to deliver science-based information to landowners. The Database Engineer (DBE) will use their technical skills within a SQL Server environment solving complex problems and researching solutions to technical challenges. The successful candidate will work with a project team to administer the database platform that includes size system hardware (physical and virtual), maintenance steps, and tuning/troubleshooting performance issues.

 This role is 100% remote! 

Responsibilities:

  • Configuration, maintenance, and support of production databases in an enterprise operations environment
  • Enterprise Database administration including data backups and testing while working within a Microsoft SQL Server-based enterprise environment
  • Database Performance: Implement Best Practices and Compression/Scheduled Automated tasks for indexing
  • Maintain application data feeds
  • Configure and maintain multi-site data failover capabilities
  • Provide direction on data solutions, data integration points, and security
  • Provide guidance on data related items in applications and the rendering of data delivered through services
  • Capture, track and fix existing database discrepancies identified by quality control checks and end user
  • Work side by side with the development team on scripts to move data through the pipeline

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technical discipline and 2+ of relevant experience; 4+ years of relevant experience is highly preferred. An additional 4+ years of experience can be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance based on the USDA regulations.
    • Candidates must be a US Citizen or permanent resident and have resided in the US for a minimum of 3 years. 

Required Skills: 

  • Working knowledge of and ability to utilize Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or higher
  • Recent experience supporting live production databases
  • Proficient in creating T-SQL based Stored Procedures, Views, User Defined Functions, Sub-queries and joins for complex queries involving multiple tables. 
  • Experience in optimizing and tuning T-SQL queries and Stored Procedures to improve query performance. 
  • Proficient in designing, developing and maintaining Parametrized, Linked, Drill-down, Drill-thru and Sub reports using SSRS.  
  • Skilled in developing SSIS Packages to Extract, Transform and Load data from various data sources. 
  • Knowledge or experience working with Java, .Net, Pega, Python, or JavaScript
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 Desired Skills

  • Proficient knowledge of and ability to utilize Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or higher. MySQL Experience.
  • Experience working with Bitbucket, Git, SonarQube, HTML, JSON, XML, Angular JS, REACT is a plus.
  • SAFe Agile experience including methodology and concepts experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of Atlassian tools such as JIRA and Confluence

Target salary range: $85,001 - $95,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.

Covid Policy: SAIC does not require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters. Customer site vaccination requirements must be followed when work is performed at a customer site.
