Description

Make a difference supporting important applications for the NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC). SAIC is seeking a Database Administrator Senior to support KSC applications developed on various platforms.

Under general supervision, will work with a team of Database Administrators engaged in the day-to-day maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL Databases.   Diagnose and resolve problems in the area of Database Administration.  Maintain database configuration, perform account management, database security, database backup and recovery, database refreshes, event log analysis, database tuning, disk space management, installation of non-SQL Server software and patches, SQL statement tuning, Oracle Upgrades, and database migrations, as well as other duties as assigned.  Be available for troubleshooting as required due to the 24/7 nature of the environment.

Assignments are broad in nature, complex and can require originality and ingenuity.  Work is remote and requires self-direction/working independently and accountability for task completion.  May be required to train other personnel in technical complexities of assigned work.  

Job Description:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems with databases and related application software (COTS and or custom applications), as well as operating system software and hardware as it relates to the Databases.
  • Assist with building/deploying new Database Systems, including recommending hardware/software configurations, and researching vendor documentation to resolve problems.
  • Resolve incoming trouble tickets from System Users and Developers.
  • Research, plan, and install Oracle Patch sets on a quarterly basis and as needed.
  • Install/Upgrade Database Software, both client and server, as required.
  • Support software developer deployments after business hours as required.
  • Support database and application migrations to newer releases of Database and Operating System Software.
  • Monitor database performance, usage, and growth, and recommend/take action as needed.
  • Monitor alert and listener logs, and address anomalies in a timely fashion.
  • Manage schema objects for optimal performance and monitor and keep instances tuned for all assigned databases.
  • Assist developers with assorted database issues including SQL optimization, batch job creation, database design, and troubleshooting.
  • Predict future trends for database usage, database server capacity, and user workload.

Qualifications

Required Education:  

  • Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience. An additional four years of experience may be applied in lieu of a Bachelors.
  • Years of experience accepted in lieu of degree. 

Clearance: 

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance. 

Required Skills: 

  • Must have Database Administration experience with Oracle 19c or higher and Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or higher.  
  • 5 or more years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator required.
  • Must have experience running Oracle on Microsoft Windows Server or Linux (Red Hat is preferred).   Oracle on Windows Server is strongly preferred; experience in both Windows and Linux is optimal.
  • Must possess the ability to tune SQL Statements and manage table storage.
  • Must have experience performing Oracle database upgrades and installing Quarterly Patches.
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) Packages is required.
  • Must possess the ability to effectively work in Oracle from the SQL prompt level.  Must also be able to create and execute SQL scripts for common maintenance tasks in both Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Must have experience in database restoration and recovery in both Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills and troubleshooting skills are essential, along with the ability to work well under pressure.

Desired Experience: 

  • The ability to script in Windows, Powershell, and Linux/UNIX is highly desired.
  • Ability to develop and optimize SQL/T-SQL statements and stored procedures is desired.
  • Experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL highly desired.
  • Experience working in a Cloud environment desired.
  • Experience with Oracle OEM13c Cloud Control desired.
  • Ability to tune SQL Server and the Oracle desired.
  • Experience with SharePoint databases desired.
  • Experience with IBM Maximo and/or PTC Windchill databases desired.
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Server/ArcSDE desired.

Target salary range: $75,001 - $100,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
