SAIC is seeking a Database Systems Engineer for a position supporting the U.S. Army’s Non-Destructive Test Equipment (NDTE) program at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. 

NDTE provides mission support for the US Army, US Marine Corps (USMC), US Air Force (USAF), and various other Department of Defense (DoD) entities. NDTE is responsible for the support and sustainment of DoD technical assets that deliver mission critical capabilities to the Warfighter in full-spectrum operations.

As a Database Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the development, design and implementation of new and optimized database from an existing source, consisting of a large database exceeding 70 TB in size. You will provide regular data quality checks and cleansing solutions, including providing support toward the development of tools that analyze, and provide statistics, trending data, as well as other reportable metrics. Solutions will be developed for both on-premise and cloud environments and must provide scalable solutions that meet customer specific requirements. This role will be responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of the database and surrounding logistics related to on-going data retention and analysis effort. You will identify performance bottle-necks and evaluate data source requirements of underlying, dependent applications and work closely with cross-functional teams to understand the operational and business requirements necessary to provide specific deliverables that meet our clients' needs. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, document, test, and implement an efficient database model to support in house analytic and analysis software that aligns with operational requirements and program mission goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify, analyze, and provide technical recommendations for: reporting and analytic capabilities, data acquisition logistics, and database optimization efforts.
  • Collaborate with development teams to optimize system performance, capabilities and troubleshoot any related issues.
  • Analyze system capabilities to resolve problems on program, data acquisition, programming techniques and controls.
  • Optimize database performance by conducting performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing to improve overall performance and capability.
  • Establish database management systems, standards, requirements, guidelines, and quality assurance for project deliverables, such as conceptual design and architecture, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface. 
  • Participate in regular quality assurance (QA) reviews and adhere to QA guidelines. 
  • Develop solutions in a client server environment.
  • Utilize Git to maintain code repositories.
  • Participate in regular code peer reviews.
  • Attend weekly stand-up meetings via Microsoft Teams.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and five (5) years of experience; Six (6) years' additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree (per contract vehicle).

Required Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated experience in managing databases and data sources for integrity and performance.
  • At least 3 years’ experience working with the design, development, and maintenance of databases using Microsoft SQL, MySQL, MongoDB, MariaDB, Oracle, or related database engines.
  • Proven experience working with databases to support web applications.
  • Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages for database automation and maintenance tasks.
  • Familiarity with database security best practices and techniques for data protection.
  • Experience in performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting database performance issues.
  • Knowledge of database backup and recovery strategies, as well as disaster recovery procedures.

Desired Qualifications:

  • In-depth understanding of database design principles, data modeling, and normalization, machine learning and algorithmic analysis methods.
  • Experience working with image analysis framework such as Optical Character Recognition and Pattern Recognition.
  • Experience with Project Management systems such as Azure DevOps.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within a team and interact with stakeholders.
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification
  • Computing Environment training or certification valid in ATCTS

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must possess active Interim or Secret Clearance, or the ability to obtain one; US Citizenship.
