Description
SAIC is seeking a Research and Development (R&D) Systems Engineer to join our team at our Chantilly-based office. SAIC provides specialized engineering, integration, design, and operations support to a variety of Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) customers. We support development of next generation and generation after next national security systems based on land, at sea, in air, and in space.
The engineer sought provides Systems Engineering & Technical Advisory (SETA) support services to a USG Program Office leading Research & Development (R&D) of space systems and space qualified technology. The specific focus of this position is systems engineering support for technical development, integration, test, and operations of R&D technology that could lead to on-orbit experiments.
The ideal candidate will be a results oriented self-starter and have a willingness to learn about various technologies. The candidate will work in an adaptive and innovative team environment. They will possess excellent interpersonal and communication (listening, verbal, and written) skills with the ability to forge and nurture close working relationships with project officers, industry partners, and SETA colleagues throughout the customer organization.
Responsibilities will include a subset of the following. Expertise in these areas is not required; guidance will be provided for responsibilities that fall outside of the candidates’ prior experience:
- Prepare deliverables including technical and programmatic assessments provided through written reports and/or oral briefings presenting analysis, results, conclusions, and recommendations. Occasionally required to brief USG and industry.
- Provide technical and programmatic support to acquisition planning, source selection, and related programmatic processes including development of acquisition support documents.
- Provide technical review and assessment of R&D satellite technology and spacecraft concepts, proposals, ground concepts, system architectures, interfaces, and operations.
- Provide technical review of systems integration, validation, verification, and test (IVVT) for space-based systems and technologies. Review IVVT implementation plans and results to assess system integration and closure.
- Advise on issues of applicability and feasibility of relevant technologies to future R&D spacecraft, mission payloads, communication systems, ground systems, launch systems, and operations concepts.

Qualifications
- Must have an active TS/SCI with poly.
- Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics (STEM) with 5+ years' experience.
- Desire to participate in USG customer enterprise research and development environment. Create, gather, and share knowledge to grow organizational competency and capability.
- Sound understanding of the principles, practices, and methods for systems engineering, integration, validation, verification, and test of spacecraft systems.
- High quality critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills needed to support team collaboration, group discussion, and oral presentations.
