SAIC is seeking a Spacecraft Missional Assurance (MA) Engineer with technical expertise in major space systems acquisitions mission assurance. This role requires an active TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph and is located in Chantilly, VA

In this role, you will be an integral participant in executing the mission assurance program for the SPO and working with the NRO Mission Assurance Executive office to ensure compliance with enterprise mission assurance policy. You should be experienced in mission assurance and quality systems requirements for large spacecraft development prime contractors and will be expected to support heritage and new resiliency requirements developed for SPO programs.  Activities leverage on an understanding of full life cycle system support, from procurement to launch, including MA requirements analysis, MA requirements tracking, MA or quality system design, and an understanding of quality/mission assurance functions during flight hardware manufacturing, unit/subsystem level test, system integration, system level test, delivery, and sell-off. 

The following tasks are representative of those that will be accomplished at the request of the customer:

  • Support customer MA activities including program office meetings, teleconferences, enterprise level meetings, and factory mission assurance forums as required
  • Coordinate with customer to assure program office flow-down and implementation of overall enterprise-level mission assurance policy
  • Participate in development contractor mission assurance/quality assurance activities and forums to include Parts, Materials, and Processes (PM&P) Control Boards, subcontractor quality audits/program and milestone reviews, Functional Configuration Audits (FCA) and Physical Configuration Audits (PCA), Corrective/Preventative Action Boards, and Failure Review Boards
  • Support the development, application, and monitoring of government and industry standards and advisories for analysis and prevention of issues that have caused failures, launch delays, reduced mission life or performance, or resulted in significant rework
  • Support the development and management of mission assurance risk profiles to include tailoring or mitigation of mission assurance requirements for systems and initiatives
  • Understand spacecraft radiation environment, requirements, and tests and analyses to verify performance against the requirements
  • Provide support to develop and monitor the Quality Assurance (QA) program which is based upon QA requirements in the SPO Mission Assurance Plan
  • Provide expert technical knowledge across machining, electronic fabrication, chemical processing, inspection techniques, assembly and integration, destructive/non-destructive testing, production management, safety, QA, and PM&P
  • Support unit and subsystem design, manufacturing, and test reviews from a QA and PM&P perspective as needed
  • Evaluate waivers and deviations to requirements for deliverable hardware and software as they are submitted for SPO approval
  • Review and coordinate QA/PM&P actions with all members of the customer technical team including Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC) PM&P representatives
  • Track issues, significant accomplishments, and upcoming events and provide weekly status updates to the customer
  • Coordinate with and provide support to other System Program Office customer leads, spacecraft subsystem leads, branch, and division chiefs as requested
  • Provide support to anomaly and failure investigations as required by the customer for prime contractor and subcontractor development and manufacturing
  • Provide technical evaluation of MA efforts in Engineering Change Proposals

Qualifications

Required Attributes:

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering discipline and 9 or more years related experience; professional experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
  • Practical knowledge of DoD or commercial satellite systems and architectures
  • Experience with spacecraft failure reviews, anomaly resolution, fault management, and spacecraft reliability
  • Experience in integrated DoD acquisition and program management processes
  • Ability to work tasks with short notice, agile in approaching solutions to problems and ability to work within flexible work parameters
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, team building, and problem solving skills with a demonstrated ability to be effective in a government/contractor team environment
  • Available to travel domestically

Desired Attributes:

  • 10-15 years experience with spacecraft MA responsibilities
  • American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
