SAIC is seeking a Software Engineering Manager for our team in Upper Marlboro, MD. This position can be worked 100% remote nationwide but will require 20% travel. The Software Engineer at SAIC's Identity and Data Sciences Laboratories (IDSL) will organize and lead our software development team which builds applications to gather, process, and store biometric data, such as face, fingerprint, and iris images to evaluate the performance of commercial biometric and identity systems. The IDSL operates the Maryland Test Facility (MdTF; http://mdtf.org) a recognized leader in large scale technology testing as well as a cloud-based biometric analytic environment (CBAE) to perform biometric evaluations on operational data spanning billions of records. The candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team and will play a key role in building and scaling new tools for acquiring and processing biometric data spanning both on-premises and cloud-based systems.  Our team environment fosters innovation and collaboration.  The IDSL promotes learning and exploration while providing flexibility and a great work-life balance.

Responsibilities

As the software engineering manager of the team, you will:

• Play a critical role in shaping the product definition, design, roadmap, and development of new software products.
• Hire, retain, and grow top engineering talent within your group.
• Be a clear technical voice, working in partnership with your teams to deliver an architecture which will scale with the needs of the customer.
• Quickly and reliably deliver high quality technical solutions that will delight the customers.
• Work on business strategy to define a product roadmap that’s compelling and focused on growth, while collaborating with other teams.
• Meet with customers to learn and help them shape their own tools and processes.
• Clearly communicate at the executive level risks, successes, and missteps as you define and execute on a vision for the product.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 14+ years of relevant engineering experience, experience in system software development and delivery.
• 5+ years of people management experience, managing engineers, business analysts and testers.
• Experience in partnering with product, program management teams and other cross functional teams.
• Experience with object-oriented design and implementation (Java, Go, Python).
• Experience building large scale applications using AWS and microservices.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Established track record of hiring and growing high-performing engineering teams.
• Experience building scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure software or distributed systems.
• Experience in Agile/SCRUM enterprise-scale software development.
• Has taken software features from inception to customer delivery.

• Candidates must be able to obtain DHS Suitability after starting work with our team

Target salary range: $175,001 - $200,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.

Covid Policy: SAIC does not require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters. Customer site vaccination requirements must be followed when work is performed at a customer site.
