SAIC is seeking a Big Data Engineer Senior to support the US Navy in San Diego, CA.

Note: This position is a hybrid remote position with approx. 1-2 days a week onsite at the SAIC office in San Diego, CA.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Data Engineer position will be in support of a NAVWAR system’s network health telemetry and reporting initiative. Integration/MDM/Data Warehousing, defining and building the data pipelines, data quality check and cleansing solutions, including capturing throughput/error statistics. Works in on-premises or public cloud environments to build scalable systems and solutions. Determines the appropriate database given the data and analytics needs, whether file structures, such as, relational databases including NewSQL, non-relational NoSQL databases including in-memory databases. While being responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization environment. Optimizes the distribution of data across our systems and the performance of repositories. Identifies performance bottle-necks and evaluates scaling benchmarks.

JOB DUTIES:

• Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization.
• Develop and maintain ETL packages for network reporting data.
• Monitor and maintain synchronization between data system and network parameters.
• Perform ad-hoc queries in SQL Server to gather instruments data for investigation or analysis.
• Monitor usage and influence service offering process to encourage data reliability and system uptake.
• Contribute to data visualizations for engineers and production personnel using interactive data visualization software or custom web design.
• Contribute to SQL Server database design to improve efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing data systems.
• Develop applications to collect information from users, perform post-hoc analysis of test data, or integrate additional data streams.
• Contribute to user interface (UI) design.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CLEARANCE:

• Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.
• Expertise in Full Stack Python Development.
• Experience in Microsoft stack - .NET 4.0/C#, JavaScript, SQL/SQL Server.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, AS2, SMTP, SSL, SSH, HTTPS, OpenSSL, LDAP, SFTP, DNS protocols.
• Experience with Linux and Microsoft Windows Server Administration.
• Experience working with scientific, engineering, or manufacturing data is required.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate large, complex datasets to extract useful data is required.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement ETL processes is required.
• Candidate must be a US citizen.
• Candidate must be able to obtain a Full DoD Secret Clearance. Interim Secret clearance required to start. SAIC will sponsor qualified candidates for a security clearance.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Knowledgeable of NAVWAR - NIWC (Previously known as SPAWAR) PMWs and system business processes to understand customer needs and support content management.
• Experience in the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process in support of acquiring a website ATO.
• Knowledge in SCRUM methodologies.
• Comfortable with engaging with site customers under minimal supervision.
• Creative problem solving skills and ability to work within areas that have no set guidance or processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with UI design team to build and implement new designs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Broad knowledge of website development and agile development methodologies.
• Comfortable with engaging with site customers under minimal supervision.
• Creative problem solving skills and ability to work within areas that have no set guidance or processes.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure DevOps Server.
• Experience with applying security updates and patches to virtual machines.
• Experience with Machine Learning.
