Description

SAIC is seeking a Software System Safety Engineer / Software Tester in support of Marine Corps weapons systems in Stafford VA.   This position is part of a team analyzing weapons systems to identify hazards, categorize risks and recommend mitigations to reduce the probability/severity of a mishap resulting in injury to personnel, equipment damage, and/or damage to the environment. 

Candidate must possess or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance. 

This is a Hybrid position requiring at least 2-3 days a week on-site in Stafford VA.  

Candidates will collaborate with government personnel, vendors, Original Equipment Manufacturers, and the user community to ensure the safety of Marine Corps systems. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Applies knowledge, methodologies and principles of safety engineering as defined in MIL-STD-882E and Software Safety engineering as defined in the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH)
  • Reviews product systems, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems
  • Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system Software design, architecture, requirements, software code and test to control or eliminate hazards
  • Assesses safety implementation in the Software Functionality, Requirements, Code and Test for hazard and causal factors to satisfy critical system safety objectives
  • Collaborate with software design teams and the customer in the execution of various MIL-STD-882E software hazard analyses.
  • Applies engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, test, or evaluate military weapons systems
  • Uses Critical Thinking skills to determine Safety Impact on Software Issues
  • Assesses architecture, requirements and interface artifacts for safety on complex hardware/ software systems
  • Identify Level of Rigor Analyses and Software Test criteria to minimize software contribution to risk.
  • Reviews and approves Test Plans and Procedures for safety requirements verification
  • Review software test results to verify software contribution to risk and validate appropriate analyses has been completed. 
  • Performs Software Safety in an agile development environment
  • Support formal review boards like the Software System Safety Technical Review Panel (SSTRP) and the Weapon Systems Explosive Safety Review Board (WSESRB).
  • Assess Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and other system change requests to identify/verify software safety risks.  

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

BS Degree + 5 Years of Experience (4 additional years of experience in lieu of degree acceptable) 

Required Skills:

  • Experience conducting System Engineering Analysis, System Safety Analysis, Risk Management, Software Testing, and/or Hazard Analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, must feel comfortable communicating and presenting in large meetings, with all levels of the organization.
  • Critical thinking skills are required to perform this work.

Desired Skills

  • Experience working with US Navy or US Marine Corps combat systems or platforms
  • Experience operating, maintaining, testing, or analyzing weapons systems or software systems especially those mentioned above
  • Systems Engineering experience with US Navy or US Marine Corps weapons systems
  • Experience preparing technical reports
  • Working knowledge Software systems integration engineering, and software test engineering
  • Understanding Software Architecture and Design
  • Experience in Hardware/Software Interface
