SAIC is seeking a Public Safety Communications Instructor II to support the US Navy in San Diego, CA.

Note: This work is part time and based on the timing of course requests from the end users.  There will be periods of months with no work followed by multiple classes.   We work with the trainers as part of a team to ensure we can surge trainers as needed. 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

SAIC has a team of certified trainers who provide on-site classes to state, local, territorial and tribal governments in public safety communications.  These courses are 3-5 days long and have 10-25 students per class.  Instructors work as part of a team of 2-4 who deliver the class in person.  In addition to classes, we have occasional need to conduct communications exercises to reinforce the training or assist local people in getting their task-books signed off.  Candidates need to be able to instruct in these disciplines so the skills in instructing are just as needed as the underlying technical expertise in executing the work.

JOB DUTIES:

We are looking for public safety communications trainers in multiple specificities and will review candidates who have qualifications on one or multiple positions.  Persons without the work experience do not have the skills needed in this role.   As part of each course, the instructor will plan the course, travel to the site, provide the course, and conduct follow-up activities to ensure the students get their course completion and are on track to fill in their position task books.

The courses this team teaches are:

  • Communications Unit Leader (COML)
  • Communications Unit technician (COMT)
  • Incident Tactical Dispatcher (INTD) -must have dispatch experience.
  • Information Technology Service Unit Leader (ITSL) - must have IT experience.
  • Incident Communications Center Manager (INCM)
  • Auxiliary Communications (AUXCOMM) - must have shortwave experience

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CLEARANCE:

  • HS/GED and eleven (11) years or more of related experience.
  • A public safety background with experience in field operations
  • A technical communications background
  • Advanced experience in creating applicable communications plans
  • Completion of the following FEMA/EMI courses
    • IS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS 100
    • IS-200: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
    • IS-700: An Introduction to the National Incident Management
  • Completion of the qualification courses for the particular class (COML, INCM, etc) the applicant is in consideration for. 
  • Completed position task book and experience as a FEMA/EMI or State trainer of the communications courses the candidate is aligned to.
  • Technical positions such as INTD and COMT require experience in the aspects of dispatch or IT needed to execute the position description.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain a Full DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Target salary range: $125,001 - $150,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
