Description

SAIC is seeking a Senior Acoustic Engineer in support of the Underwater Sensors and Polymers group in Bedford, IN.  This position has multiple responsibilities that all directly relate to Sonar Systems for both Navy ships and submarines.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree with 3+ years of related experience or Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years of related experience
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Acoustic knowledge and experience in testing various shipboard projectors and hydrophones
  • Ability to determine appropriate acoustic testing parameters (facility, drive levels, frequency, gating parameters and etc.) for various units under test.
  • Knowledge of available NRL Acoustic Standards and capabilities (frequency span, pressure limits, directional characteristic) for required testing.
  • Capable of reviewing test data for technical accuracy and security issues and communicate findings/results to multiple customers.
  • Familiarization with Acoustic Test Systems and methodology in order to trouble shoot issues including; ancillary equipment, failed instruments, improper equipment set-up, cabling and etc.
  • Signal processing knowledge in order to assure test system measurement accuracy and support upgrading of obsolete equipment.
  • Ability to perform/oversee acoustic testing for outside customers, both civilian and government entities.
  • Sufficient knowledge of Acoustic Testing including resources, duration and availability in order to develop SOP’s and accurately generate Cost Estimates for the various Facilities; ATF, Open Tank, Hydro and Lake.
  • General knowledge/experience related to pumps, electric and pneumatic valves and actuators, process chillers, glycol loops, heat exchangers, hydraulic pumps and cylinders in order to operate/maintain/enhance systems integral to the Acoustic Test Facility.
