Description

The Vanguard 2.2.1 program currently has an opening for a System Engineer/Software Lifecycle Engineer position for the Patch Management engineering team within the Vanguard Network Engineering and Design (NED) engineering office. Patch Management is comprised of a team that packages software and patches, makes them available to the enterprise, and in the case of Centralized Patch Management, targets all OpenNet systems overseas with updates.

The well qualified candidate will be a multifaceted individual with experience and interest in security related issues of systems management especially in the Microsoft and Linux arena. Specifically, this candidate will participate in the delivery of software updates and patches, as well as provide tier III support to resolve customer issues. Candidate will also be involved in R & D efforts related to systems management. The position may allow temporary hybrid remote work due to Covid-19.  Position may be called back onsite at any time at the customer's request.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Enterprise Patch Management provides services including timely software, patch, security update packaging and distribution to DOS enterprise systems including Windows based Servers and Workstations.
  • Discovery, Risk Assessment, Packaging, Testing, Documenting and Delivery of Security Patches for applications included in the scope of the Enterprise Patch Management Program. 
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting patch and software packages created by EPM both proactively and in response to Remedy incidents.
  • Re-engineering patch & software packaging, and reporting solutions as technologies change and/or problems are identified and mitigated.   
  • The team also supports CyberSecurity and Incident Response related packaging and deployment efforts. These duties include rapid and non-duty hours support for cybersecurity incidents, unexpected Foreign Post closures, Major Stakeholder break/fix support, and CIO/PDCIO special initiatives. 
  • EPM is also responsible for performing Operating System Deployment (OSD) engineering for Windows 10 platforms (20H2 and 21H2). These duties include WIM creation, task sequence creation, testing, and publishing in PAT OSD. This work now provides substantial support to updated platforms leveraged across the enterprise including the EMD/Go Desktop, Mobile DAW and GITM.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; may accept additional experience in lieu of degree
  • BS degree in a computer science/computer engineering related discipline highly preferred
  • IT related degree, and /or experience with system management of Windows.
  • Patch management experience especially with regard to Microsoft products, i.e. Windows Update Agent, MEM, or WSUS.
  • MECM/InTune hands on experience (ability to leverage console, create objects and troubleshoot issues)
  • Scripting language experience, specifically Powershell
  • Compatibility Testing experience
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Required Clearance

  • US Citizenship 
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of cyber security concepts
  • Experience with patching Linux environment
