SAIC has a funded need for a Electro-Optical Payload Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Advisory (SETA) services to support a rapidly expanding Government Intelligence Community (IC) customer for a complex space effort within the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) in Chantilly, VA.

The Electro-Optical Payload Engineer supports a System Program Office (SPO) in a technical capacity for planning, execution, monitoring, and oversight of satellite system development and acquisitions that advance the National Reconnaissance Office’s (NRO) space resiliency posture.  The position is for an initial operational capability in an emerging mission area. 

While seniority is a plus and knowledge of systems engineering is required, this position can accommodate a mid-level engineer that is eager to learn and grow in their knowledge and experience.  The Electro-Optical Payload Engineer should be able to quickly adapt to a multi-tasking environment and comfortable working amongst a small, diverse, and energetic team in the pursuit of mission objectives and project success.

NOTE:  Flexible work schedule options such as 9/80 or 8/80 may be available but dependent upon customer demands.

The Electro-Optical Payload Engineer will joint a team of on-site SETAs working a system acquisition and responsibilities that may include but not limited to the following:

  • Provide technical support and participate in customer activities, such as program readiness and design reviews
  • Represent the Government Customer as a technical representative of the program office, interfacing directly with Development Contractor’s management teams and technical staff
  • Review design material to identify issues, assess maturity, identify risks, and propose potential solutions
  • Work in a team to ensure proper requirement Verification and Validation methodology is executed by the developer
  • Review test plans, provide feedback to the Government Customer and the Development Contractors, observe discrete tests, and provide technical assessments of progress to the program office team
  • Identify space system development and Integration and Testing risks; provide inputs to risk management processes, including proposed risk mitigation approaches
  • Provide oversight of on-going acquisitions, with specific focus on ensuring end-to-end system closure and satisfaction of mission need
  • Review Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) deliverables to ensure content, technical accuracy, and sufficiency of design details to meet program requirements and objectives

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline and 9 years or more relevant experience;  Master’s degree is an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline and 7 years or more relevant experience
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
  • Advanced understanding of optical systems and associated electronics, space qualification, procurement, integration and test, and mission design.
  • Effective communication, coordination, and customer engagement skills
  • Strong written and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and small team environment
  • Knowledge of how space systems are designed, specified, developed, manufactured, and tested
