Job Summary:

Manages, installs and operates server operating systems software, including Windows Server and other server operating systems as required, running on virtual platforms, in a secure network environment. The System Administrator is also responsible for ensuring that servers are secure and performing optimally. They shall have experience installing, monitoring and optimizing on-premise hardware, server software, and peripherals. They shall be skilled in creating user objects, creating administration scripts and batch files, running systems backups, and resolving systems problems.

  • Leads other System Administrators in implementing hardware and software upgrades and implementations
  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization in a Microsoft environment
  • Provides technical assistance for the installation and upgrading of new and existing file and print servers, application servers, and software
  • Maintains computer rooms, IT storage, and network operation centers in a clean and orderly manner
  • Responds to service requests related to problems with file servers, communication servers, print servers, and other devices
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
  • Performs system maintenance/upgrades and vulnerability remediation on systems hardware/software in accordance with established DOT procedures. This may require working outside normal duty hours
  • Is responsible for the creation, setup, and management of Active Directory network user accounts; managing Group Policy objects, and keeping updated per security requirements
  • Perform or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, failover procedures and on an emergency basis
  • Performs Storage Area Network (SAN) operations, storage capacity management and configuration of fiber channel SAN brocade switch
  • Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and some MS SQL database performance
  • Installs and operates server operating systems software, including Windows Server and other server operating systems as required in a secure network environment
  • Creates administration scripts and batch files to automate processes or generate reports as requested. Knowledge of PowerShell is a plus
  • Is proficient/knowledgeable in Windows Servers running as a Domain Controller supporting Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy Objects (GPOs)
  • Administers virtual guest machines using VMware vCenter
  • Familiar with Linux, *nix and willing to learn
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required
  • 3-5 years of System administration in a Microsoft environment, and light network administration experience
  • System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields are a plus
  • Working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs
  • Professional certifications are a plus

Target salary range: $100,001 - $125,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
