Description

SAIC is currently seeking Biological and/or Chemical Detection support with a background or experience in food, agricultural, and veterinary defense (FAVD) for Research and Development (R&D) efforts under Department Homeland Security Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (DHS CWMD). This position can be worked 100% remote nationwide.

The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in one or more of the following fields of study: animal science, veterinary science, pathogen diagnostics, biology, biophysics, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or Select Agents and Toxins. The successful candidate will have biological subject matter expertise and be able to provide technical support with knowledge of methods for searching, collecting, and collating information. Duties and responsibilities include research and development as it relates to materiel solutions in support of the DHS mission, Program Management Office (PMO) support, interacting with government, academic, and private industry representatives, as well as National Laboratories and other SMEs, engineers, and support staff within CWMD.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support with knowledge of methods for searching, collecting, and collating information
  • Knowledge or direct experience in biological detection techniques and principles, such as immunological, molecular, field-forward, and laboratory-based
  • Advise CWMD Research & Development (R&D) division on R&D technologies, studies, and programs related to detection of chemical weapons of mass destruction
  • Detailed note-taker, capable of recording clear minutes, decision points, and/or action items during meetings.
  • Generate, edit, and interpret scientific reports based upon technical results from CWMD research and development efforts
  • Serve as a technical expert working with the federal staff to assist in development of forward-focused plans, acting in an advisory & assistance services (A&AS) capacity
  • Ability to conduct in-depth literature searches using publicly available information search and gathering tools and the DHS library (once trained)
  • Ability to collect information, digest the information, and place in reports and documents with minimal supervision

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of experience
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must have an active Secret clearance with ability to eventually obtain SCI
  • Experience and background in animal science, veterinary science, biology, biophysics, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, and/or biological detection technologies
  • Prior project or program management support experience a plus
  • Must be able to initiate, supervise, develop requirements for projects from inception to conclusion
  • Detailed note-taker, capable of recording clear minutes, decision points, and/or action items during meetings.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience in animal science, veterinary science, biology, biophysics, biomedical engineering, biological detection technologies
  • Knowledge or direct experience in biological detection techniques and principles, such as immunological, molecular, field-forward, and laboratory-based
  • Characterization or testing (field or laboratory) of prototype biological detectors and systems
  • Familiarity with instrumentation development and data analysis
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics including National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) GenBank and/or European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL)
  • Familiarity with fielded biological detection systems; Knowledge of current baselines and standard technology

Target salary range: $100,001 - $125,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
