SAIC is recruiting for an Application Programmer for our NOAA / GFDL program with strong experience working directly with HPC. This individual will be supporting climate code and algorithm transitions to new computing architectures and paradigms, as well as the scientists and users that write the code, in a structured team environment.


The programmer will participate in various algorithm improvements and code optimization initiatives, as well as serving as a HPC and Model Support liaison between Scientists and the Modeling Services team for the purposes of scientific code development and infrastructure planning. Attending code reviews, planning development meetings, running Computer Climate Models for the purposes of regression testing and Documentation of production software are other roles included in this position.


This position reviews, analyzes, develops, installs, and modifies computer operating systems and systems utilities and applications.  The ideal candidate must have a thorough understanding of application development, system processing of applications, and how system architecture impacts application utilization and optimization.  

Overall the candidate will:  

Analyze and resolves problems at the code, system, network, or user level;

Troubleshoot the function and performance of system utilities;

Work to develop new capabilities and optimize performance;

Detect, diagnoses, and report related problems;

Participate in evaluating new HPC technology and architectures;

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • B.S. in Math, Computer Science, Engineering or Physical Science e.g. (Meteorology, Physics);
  • Four years of experience in Systems Engineering, Programming
  • Deep knowledge of HPC architecture;
  • Experience with Cloud architecture from an ad hoc scalability standpoint to support greater compute, as well as from a cloud migration standpoint;
  • Experience with HPC schedulers;
  • Proficiency in Linux and basic Linux administration;
  • Shell, PERL, BASH Scripting 
  • Experience with Massively Parallel Programming concepts and tools such as OpenMP
  • Experience in Interactive Debugger e.g. TotalView, Allinea 
  • Experience with source code control systems (i.e. code repositories SVN, GIT)
  • Proficiency in Modern Programming Languages e.g. (C, C++);
  • Technical Writing Experience; 
  • US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance;
