SAIC is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Linux Systems Engineer to support and help drive digital transformation efforts at SAIC. This is a remote work position that may be performed at any location within the United States.

The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated skills and experience as a Linux Systems Administrator, and be familiar with NIST standards.  
As a potential member of our SAIC family, the ideal candidate will be team-oriented, independent, and display exceptional technical leadership qualities.

Roles and Responsibilities Include:

  • Configuring, maintaining, monitoring, diagnosing and troubleshooting servers running the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Operating System (and other Linux distributions) in a networked environment on VMWare virtual, physical and Azure IaaS servers.  
  • Working with RHEL servers using Red Hat Satellite and Ansible to manage and automate full system lifecycle of Linux servers, including deploying, securing, patching and maintaining RHEL operating systems.
  • Responding to requests for assistance via ServiceNow ticketing system, in accordance with required service level agreements.
  • Tracking and documenting project tasks and assignments into Azure DevOps.  ITIL certification, and/or experience working in Scrum or Kanban (Agile) teams is a plus.
  • Providing infrastructure support for IT-related services including installing and configuring software as requested by developers, and participating in project work to setup and/or redesign applications and systems.
  • Maintaining current security policy procedures as well as evaluating vulnerability and security information to recommend appropriate measures/enhancements to secure Linux servers according to SAIC's and customers' security requirements
  • Maintaining authentication solution for RHEL servers, and methods for securely granting access and authorization to servers
  • Participation in Operational Readiness and Change Management reviews, as well as rotational on-call duties, to provide 24 x 7, 365 days a year availability and performance of SAIC's most critical business systems.

Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience. An additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Required Experience:

  • Must have Linux systems administrator experience,  preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux, in a networked, enterprise data center environment.  
  • Experience designing enterprise Linux solutions of moderate complexity based on identified requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience migrating and supporting Linux servers in an IaaS cloud environment on Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure.
  • Advanced experience performing root cause analysis, troubleshooting, monitoring server operating system performance and recommending updates to improve performance.
  • Experience with managing virtual servers in a VMWare infrastructure.
  • Experience with automation solutions and scripting (Ansible, Puppet/Chef, bash, perl, etc.) to manage Linux servers in a large data center environment.  
  • Experience managing authentication and authorization for RHEL using Active Directory.
  • Experience with securing the Linux operating system environment in compliance with NIST 800-171 standards.
  • Experience collaborating and coordinating project tasks in a team-oriented environment.  Applicant must have strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Preferred:

  • Experience managing RHEL servers in Azure
  • Experience with Satellite and Ansible Tower
  • Experience with Centrify
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps and Agile/Kanban methodologies
  • Linux+, RHCSA, Security+ or CASP and ITIL 4 certifications
  • Experience with Splunk
  • Previous Federal Service Integrator work is preferred

Target salary range: $95,001 - $105,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.

Covid Policy: SAIC does not require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters. Customer site vaccination requirements must be followed when work is performed at a customer site.
