SAIC is seeking a Principal Engineer – Electrochemistry for our Crane, IN office, in support of US Navy and other DoD Service branches.  The person in this position will become an engineering lead for SAIC supporting the military application of low and high voltage systems, including associated system engineering and safety requirement.

Note: This is a hybrid remote role that requires periodic travel to our office in Crane, IN.

Responsibilities include:

  • System Qualification Testing – Performance testing and Safety/Hazard Characterization Testing; Write Test Plans, Test Procedures, and Test Reports; Execute and/or oversee tests on site at NSWC/Crane or at vendor facilities
  • Systems Integration Testing – Perform Field Integration and Operational Checkout through IOC; Perform and/or oversee periodic field maintenance
  • Perform reliability analyses

Qualifications

Required Education and experience

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
  • Bachelors and fourteen (14) years or more experience; Masters and twelve (12) years or more experience; PhD and nine (9) years or more experience.
  • Understanding of the range of battery chemistries (and also other energy storage devices such as fuel cells).

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience with Navy manned and unmanned underwater systems
  • Energy storage and power systems
  • Military (Navy, Marine Corps) and NASA vehicles
  • Low voltage (24 VDC) to high voltage (300-400 VDC) systems
  • Small (< 2 kWh) to Large (> 1000 kWh) systems
  • Specify and integrate associated power conversion systems
  • Working knowledge of Military and NASA design requirements and safety requirements (e.g. S9310-AQ-SAF-010, SG270-BV-SAF-010, JSC-20793B, NASA/TM-2009-215751 /NESC-RP-08-75/06-069-I)
  • Working knowledge of Industry Standards for design and safety (e.g. UL, IEC, IATA)
  • Systems Requirements Specifications (and decompose into derived requirements and subsystem specs)
  • Safety Assessments (Hazard Analyses, FMEA’s, Fault Tree Analyses, Root Cause Failure Analyses)
