SAIC is seeking a talented Portfolio Architect with extensive experience in Federal software architecture and engineering, Federal cybersecurity compliance requirements, and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) business objectives. This person will support the new Technical Office of the Benefits and Memorials (BAM) Portfolio and lead accomplishment of its goals to direct the architecture/engineering of BAM products, implement concepts of DevSecOps, and accomplish faster delivery while maintaining security and safety of government systems and Veteran data. The Portfolio Architect will serve as a senior advisor to their VA customer counterparts and directly lead efforts to: establish and document architect/design standards; review product architecture/engineering; bring products in compliance with Federal standards, regulations, and laws; and evaluate/assess software products! This role is 100% remote!
Review product security posture to identify risks and compliance gaps
Collaborate with stakeholders to develop ideas on how products can better comply with standards, regulations, and laws governing Federal systems
Participate in ongoing discussions, documentation changes, and guideline updates as part of a working group comprised of representation from each product line in the Portfolio
Participate in a larger working group – the Architecture Review Board – to review technical, architectural, and engineering solutions created by the product lines to deliver business requirements
Collaborate with application developers on designing solutions and configurations that align with system architecture best practices.
Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints
Conduct research on problem areas and specific topics
Maintain knowledge of applicable VA rules and regulations.
Facilitate executive-level virtual meetings; prepare meeting agenda, capture meeting minutes, and track outcomes and action items
Work proactively and independently to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
Plan, monitor, and control relevant tasks outlined in the contract and statement of work
Function as part of an integrated team sharing products, best practices, and information across the portfolio
Ability to build relationships, influence, and support product lines.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 15+ years of experience is heavily preferred, 9 years’ of related experience required.
10 additional years of experience can be substituted in lieu of education.
5 years leadership of Federal Architecture design and governance standards.
Experience with NIST/ISO/RMF DoD Model Based Systems Engineering and associated overlays in military of federal government
Experience working with Jira and Architecture Software
Technical experience related to design oversite to NIST/FIPS/FISMA, and the requirements related to RMF package submission.
Collaborative approach across agile teams to manage dependencies and ensure risks are proactively managed
Creation of visuals (overlays, mock-ups, etc.) to help drive discussions with Product Manager stakeholders and product managers
Demonstrated effective communication of architectural requirements based on various architecture models DoDAFI/II with NIST Overlays to cross-functional team members and management.
Experience at the installation level as it relates to actually doing the design, installation, certification, and accreditation of Federal system.
Experience assessing an over-arching set of environments including hardware/system configurations in order to:
Develop security engineering solutions for VA hardware and software
Ensure risks are mitigated and communicated effectively to the product managers
Be responsive to information technology guidelines, policies and directives
Educate non-cybersecurity personnel about the cybersecurity engineering process and importance of cybersecurity
