Job Description


SAIC applies cutting edge software development, high performance computing resources, and advanced laboratory technology to the problem of developing advanced sensor concepts for the United States Air Force. The successful applicant will play a key role in lab operations, including design, development, and construction of optical systems to perform tests and evaluations of IR and EO sensor concepts.  

  • The successful applicant will be responsible for coordinating with the concept team on understanding the operational principles and modes of the unit under test and applying that knowledge to the construction of appropriate test hardware, the ability to communicate with a wide variety of subject matter experts and determine real, actionable requirements and functional designs and optical hardware is critical.
  • The successful applicant will support laboratory tests, including setup, debugging, operation and test results documentation, be involved in the development of new projector hardware and related test technology, be able to work effectively both within a team and individually, have the ability to anticipate requirements and technology, and act proactively to position the lab for improvement and success.
  • The successful applicant will provide technical direction, program strategy development and resource allocation on innovative research activities for the customer involving IR and EO sensor concepts, and prepare/present technical, financial and programmatic briefings to the AFRL customer.


  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in physics, engineering, optics, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience
  • Hands on experience with design and operation of optical systems
  • Experience in a test environment, including planning, executing and documenting test programs

****Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance.
