Description

SAIC seeks a talented and goal-oriented individual to join the Software Infrastructure (SI) team at NASA’s Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO). You will be an integral contributor to a dynamic team of specialists working closely with elite national and international scientists to advance NASA's Goddard Earth Observing System Model (GEOS) in the study of our planet's complex weather and climate systems. You will have the opportunity to develop solutions to complex software problems involving large computations using known software engineering best practices. You will be involved in improving research workflows suitable for implementation on both NASA and Cloud High-Performance Computing (HPC) platforms.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • developing infrastructure/coupling software within GEOS.
  • benchmarking and optimizing GEOS
  • working with GMAO in developing/updating workflows for GEOS use cases in support of our DevSecOps processes
  • providing help to the GEOS user community through answering questions, one-on-one discussion, tutorials and workshops
  • sharing experiences with the HPC community by presentations at conferences and external workshops

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science or Engineering Discipline plus 6 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts
  • Experience with scientific programming programming languages and skills including Fortran and/or C/C++
  • 1+ years of experience with Earth data assimilation (land, ocean, or atmospheric), global Earth System modeling 
  • Experience with parallel software approaches including MPI, OpenMP, OpenACC, CUDA, Coarray Fortran on high-end computing environments.
  • Experience with version control software using Git and GitHub workflows
