SAIC is seeking an entry-level to mid-level Acoustic Calibration Technician who is interested in learning the field of underwater acoustic measurements at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division in Newport, RI. You will be part of a small team of skilled technicians supporting engineers to test and characterize acoustic transducers, undersea technologies, and novel R&D systems.  Ideally the applicant should have some training or experience in an electrical or electronics field as well as a mechanical aptitude and computer literacy.  You become familiar with ATF measurement acquisition systems, transducers, and acoustic concepts as you learn to conduct underwater acoustic testing in a R&D Navy lab.    

Location: Work is performed on site at the NUWC Division Newport Acoustic Tank Facility (ATF). 

Work Schedules: Monday-Friday, typically 7:00-3:45.

Job Duties:

• You will setup, repair, and maintain test fixtures and underwater cabling that is used in underwater acoustic testing.
• You will setup and operate acoustic test equipment including amplifiers, filters, pulse delay and triggering units, and various other measurement equipment.  Training is available, but a baseline aptitude and understanding will be helpful.
• You will monitor and maintain lab tools, fixtures and test equipment to keep in good working order
• You will help to maintain the water filtration system

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Work experience in an electrical maintenance field may be considered as acceptable in some cases.
• Understanding of electrical concepts and sensors including AC and DC voltage, amperage, and frequency are required.
• Capable of learning test techniques used to evaluate transducers and acoustic/mechanical systems if not already experienced in such work.
• Awareness of risk mitigation techniques when working with high voltage, weight handling, and tools.
• Must already hold active SECRET clearance.

Desired:

• An associate’s degree in a technical discipline.
• Familiarity with test and measurement equipment.
• Experience troubleshooting, building, or maintaining electrical or electronic systems.
• Familiarity with acoustics, transducers, etc.
