Job Description


SAIC, a leading provider of systems development & deployment, targeting & intelligence analysis, systems engineering & integration, and training capabilities and solutions for the Intelligence Community, is seeking creative and dedicated professionals to fulfill their career goals and objectives while delivering mission excellence on programs of national importance. We are currently seeking a candidate to work as a Transportation Specialist / Class A CDL Truck Driver in the Huntsville, AL area with experience in the transportation of munitions and military assets to various facilities on Redstone Arsenal and across the United States.

Responsibilities include:

  • Handle, load, and transport cargo (including hazardous materials) to military test sites and ranges across the U.S.
  • Assist maintenance specialists in the operation and repair of foreign military vehicles (gasoline and diesel powered equipment) in support of foreign materiel exploitation (FME) programs.  These repairs include performing minor repairs, such as battery and tire maintenance, as well as major repairs, such as engine overhauls, on vehicles without the benefit of repair manuals.  Assistance includes operating a wide variety of threat vehicles without the benefit of English language training manuals.
  • Perform operator level maintenance on all domestic equipment to include but not limited to trailers, trucks, and forklifts.
  • Negotiate schedules and lead times with the government customer and SAIC management for the safe transportation and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Oversee the planning, scheduling, coordination and/or final approval of required permits in support of logistics and transportation operations.
  • Determine requirements, develop detailed scenarios, and identify trends for material/transportation asset usage required to meet customer operations and missions.
  • Develop procedures/plans and systems to provide logistical and transportation support to FME programs. This includes providing work direction and guidance to other non-transportation team members in the preparation of logistical and transportation plans and projects.


  • U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a Secret security clearance within 3 months of hire. 
    • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance with SCI and be able to pass a counter-intelligence (CI) polygraph within 2 years of hire date.
  • HS diploma or equivalent plus 2+ years’ driving experience.
    • Must meet minimum requirements for safe driving. Driving accident records will be requested upon hire along with any evidence that the candidate has violated laws governing the operation of motor vehicles including speeding, reckless driving, and operating while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Able to travel CONUS and OCONUS 50% to 60% of the time
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and have a minimum of 24 months experience driving manual transmission semi-trucks.
  • Able to obtain or already possess HazMat endorsement and Doubles/Triples Trailer Endorsements within 45 days of employment.
  • Experience with loading and securing odd shaped and sized equipment onto removable gooseneck (RGN) and flatbed trailers.
  • Familiar with oversized/overweight permit procurement procedures for each state
  • Capable of lifting heavy objects (up to 100 lbs)
  • Able to pass periodic drug screening
