SAIC has been awarded a task to support the Office of Experimental Sciences Technical, Analytical, Programmatic and Integration Support Services.  This organization is a key part of the U.S. Nuclear Weapons Program.  It addresses both basic and applied science and engineering associated with weapon design, engineering, margins of uncertainty, development of diagnostics and major experimental facilities.  It works closely with the Los Alamos, Livermore, and Sandia National Laboratories and the Nevada Nuclear Security Site (old Nevada Test Site).  Also works with the nuclear weapon production sites and DoD relevant weapon system program offices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Nuclear Program Analyst/ Engineer will provide expertise to the Department of Energy/ National Nuclear Security Administration Office of Experimental Sciences and offer subject matter expert (SME) recommendations and analyses on nuclear related projects. The selected candidate should have a strong foundational knowledge of NNSA R&D experimentation contributing to Science Based Stockpile Stewardship. Additional duties may include:

  • Support regular OES highlight activities to inform OES contribution to the greater NNSA
  • Participate in creating and maintaining high level office documentation such as Implementation plans, Strategic Execution Framework and Stockpile Stewardship Management Plans
  • Provide technical support to any Federal Program Managers responsible for the following areas:
    • Exploring material behavior in environments of extreme conditions of pressure, temperature, and strain rates
    • Conducting the research needed to improve stockpile stewardship science predictive capability, revise the common framework models, and uncertainty quantification
    • Investigation radiation transport and complex hydrodynamics
    • Aid in the development of dynamic experimental diagnostics and advanced experimental platforms
  • Conduct Program Reviews and provide reports to leadership as requested
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors in a relevant field and five (5) years or more of related experience; Masters in a relevant field and three (3) years. Relevant degrees will be Physics, Nuclear Engineering or other similar fields.

  • Must be US Citizen
  • Five to seven (5-7) years’ experience working with NNSA science and nuclear related projects.
  • Must have experience working with NNSA science and nuclear related projects in at least one of the areas below:
    • Experience with NNSA Facility Operations
    • Experience with the NNSA complex, experimental facilities, science-based stockpile stewardship
    • Experience with Material in Extreme Conditions (MEC) research
    • Experience with Light Source experimental research such as (APS at Argonne National Labs, National Synchrotron at Brookhaven, and LCLS at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory)
    • Experience with Advance Diagnostic
  • Relevant advanced degree (nuclear, HE, materials, physics, etc.)
  • Must have extensive experience working in current standard computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Must have experience performing work in a virtual / telework environment
  • Excellent communications both verbal and written.  
  • Must be able to communicate complex scientific reports and develop these reports from data analysis to others who may be not technical both via presentation and in written reports. 
  • Must have an active DOD Top Secret or DOE Q security clearance

 PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

  • Advanced degree in related the technical field
  • Ten plus (10+) years’ experience working with NNSA science and nuclear related projects.
  • Direct experience with the Office of Experimental Sciences (OES)

LOCATION:

  • Position will be hybrid between teleworking and on-site.  The position will primarily telework but must be close enough to an NNSA facility with access to the NNSA classified network to report onsite as needed.  The candidate may be required to go on site every day of the week if major project deliverables are due until the project is complete as a normal commute.  The primary locations that have the classified network are
    • Washington, DC
    • Germantown MD
    • Albuquerque, NM
    • Los Alamos NM
    • Livermore CA
    • Any other locations would need approval and verification of access to the classified systems.

Target salary range: $125,001 - $150,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
