Job Description


SAIC is seeking an experienced Mission Assurance Engineer to support Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) projects in Greenbelt, MD. If selected, you will be part of the NASA GSFC Mission Operations Assurance Engineering (MOAE) Team that provides independent technical guidance to projects during pre-launch/commissioning (Phase D), operations and sustainment (Phase E) and decommissioning (Phase F) project life-cycle phases. The MOAE areas of focus include mission operations surveillance (establishing, execution and modification of mission operations processes), anomaly investigation/assessment, conducting and assisting in studies, and formally documenting, sharing, and applying lessons learned to NASA projects. As a part of this team, you would be collaborating on many NASA related well-known projects. This specific opportunity is high profile supporting NASA Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) program and the Near-Earth Network (NEN)/Space Network (SN), therefore, experience in ground systems, operations and maintenance is particularly useful for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Assure and assess nominal operations
  • Assure change management for software, hardware, and documentation
  • Support risk management and assessment
  • Support end of life planning and commissioning
  • Support anomaly investigation and anomaly resolution
  • Participate in project milestone reviews
  • Conduct and assist studies (project and cross-project)
  • Formally document, share and help apply lessons learned
  • Assure standard NASA engineering practices are followed


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.
  • Experience with mission operations for NASA or DoD satellite missions
  • Experience with satellite control center command and telemetry ground systems (e.g., ITOS, ECLIPSE etc.)
  • Experience with configuration management tools in an operational team environment (e.g., Subversion, git, PVCS, etc.)
  • Experience with NASA (or Project Management Institute) risk management practices

Required Skills:

  • Performing complex software system verification and validation ensuring that the software system design meets functional and performance requirements and complies with institutional standards, project requirements, and approved waivers.
  • Evaluate test plans, test cases, and test artifacts for accuracy and completeness.
