JOB DESCRIPTION: Personnel performing this position will be required to perform preparation of rations, and cleaning of food preparation areas, animal enclosures and commons areas, as well as maintaining and cleaning specialized equipment. Personnel are also responsible for the operation and maintenance of small watercraft. Personnel perform feeding and administration of food supplements, perform observation of marine mammals, and assist with basic husbandry. The personnel in this position may be trained to become a designated secondary handler for specific animals. This position will require scuba diving. Advanced scuba skills are a plus. As part of an integrated military function the MMA1 performs tasks related to the care and training of marine mammals for specific marine mammal projects. Job will require working outdoors, on boats in adverse weather conditions. All new hires will have to pass a swim & dive test in addition to possessing at minimum, a basic scuba certification. Personnel must be able to work flexible work hours (shift work) including weekends and holidays. The position is located in San Diego, CA.<br/><br/>JOB DESCRIPTION:<br/><br/>In this role, the candidate will provide engineering support and engineer solutions to complex tasking for a variety of MOD customers. Tasking examples:<br/><br/>-  Operate and maintain marine deck equipment including Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs), Electro-Hydraulic Winch Systems and PLC-based machinery control systems.<br/>-  Perform assessments of hydraulic system designs and performance characteristics, and subsequently recommend design modifications or re-engineering solutions for improving system performance.<br/>-  Specify, install and program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) for complex electro-hydraulic control systems.<br/>-  Troubleshoot onboard processors, power supplies, A/D converters, serial output modules, proximity switches, load cells and mechanical sensor systems.<br/>-  New-build system design and engineering will be required on a less frequent basis. For system design and new-build projects, the applicant must be able to interface with commercial and government customers to determine their requirements, generate requirement documentation and change orders, analyze procurement decisions (weigh the trade-offs between cost, specifications, requirements and schedule), design and fabricate one-offs or prototypes.<br/><br/>The applicant should also have the ability to respond rapidly to our customer&#8217;s travel requests, maintain flexibility in scheduling and possess a willingness to adapt to changes in project scope and technical responsibilities. He / she will travel to job sites / vessels in both the U.S. and abroad. These trips typically last 1-2 months, and may occur multiple times per year. As the crews for these jobs are comprised of small teams, often with customer representatives, it is paramount that the individual has good communication skills and displays professionalism at all times. While deployed team members will reside in tight living quarters necessitating an ability to adjust personal preferences and get along with others.<br/><br/><b>Qualifications:</b><br/>REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS:<br/><br/>BS in Engineering and 4 years of applicable experience. The ideal applicant should be familiar with and be able to perform the following tasks:<br/><br/>-  Complete understanding of hydraulic power systems engineering<br/>-  Perform electronic and PLC system troubleshooting<br/>-  Program and install PLCs<br/>-  Experience with collecting and processing data from equipment via ASCII serial communications.<br/>-  Perform Shipboard system integration and equipment mobilization<br/>-  Assist in offshore project planning<br/>-  Use machine shop tools &#8211; mill / lathe / drill press / hand tools<br/>-  Ability to routinely lift / carry 50 pounds. Able-bodied enough to get around a ship-board work environment &#8211; Go up and down ladders / stairwells, into confined spaces / etc.<br/><br/>Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (including MS Project), SolidWorks, AutoCAD & other engineering software as well as have a basic understanding of computer language & code writing a plus.<br/><br/>Desirable Education / Skills:<br/><br/>Non-engineering specialized skills and certificates are a plus (i.e. rigging experience, crane, forklift, and EMT). Hydraulic power equipment maintenance & operations class.
