<item><title>Animal Caretaker II 319225 (NCI) Job (Frederick, MD, US)</title><description><![CDATA[Animal Caretaker II 319225 (NCI)   (Job Number:319225)<br/><br/><b>Description:</b><br/><br/><br/><br/>PROGRAM DESCRIPTION<br/><br/>SAIC-Frederick, Inc.&#8217;s Laboratory Animal Sciences Program (LASP) provides exceptional quality animal care and technical support services for animal research performed at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR). The LASP contributes to improving human health, developing new treatments, and improving existing treatments for cancer and other diseases while ensuring safe and humane treatment of animals.<br/><br/>JOB DESCRIPTION<br/><br/>This position is responsible for performing animal care duties, which include a variety of routine tasks associated with general laboratory animal care in biomedical research; cage changing and sanitation; general laboratory animal housekeeping and cleaning duties; stocking supplies; keeping basic records; operating equipment including cage and rack washers and autoclaves; and performing related duties required for the proper care, feeding and housing of laboratory animals. Responsibilities also include collection of hair, fecal and blood samples for diagnostic testing. New assignments are normally accompanied by detailed instructions, and completed work is checked for accuracy and compliance with established standards. Work may involve the use of potentially hazardous material, including biological and chemical carcinogen or radiological materials or may be located in areas where such materials are used. Work will require the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to strict safety protocols. Personnel are required to change into dedicated facility shoes and clothing before entering the facility.<br/><br/><b>Qualifications:</b><br/>BASIC QUALIFICATIONS<br/><br/>-  Completion of eighth grade.<br/>-  One (1) year of job-related animal care experience and ALAT certification &#8211;or- two (2) years laboratory animal care experience with high school diploma.<br/>-  Ability to handle a variety of laboratory animals, keep simple records, operate automatic washing and cleaning equipment.<br/>-  Lift up to 40-50 lbs., and wear respiratory protective equipment if necessary.<br/>-  Knowledge of routine tasks associated with general laboratory animal care.<br/>-  This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.<br/><br/>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS<br/><br/>-  Good organizational/observational skills and a desire to learn new tasks.<br/>-  Computer/data entry.<br/>-  The ability to work in a team environment.<br/><br/>SAIC-Frederick Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC, is accelerating the development of new technologies and treatments for patients with cancer and AIDS.
