Provides medical evaluation for subjects in clinical trials in collaboration with the Medical Director and other members of the research team by obtaining medical histories, screening and monitoring the medical status of subjects. Provides assessments of acute and non-acute clinical problems and toxicities. Provides documentation, monitoring and grading of side effects related to a variety of study interventions, including drugs and psychological behaviors. Orders the appropriate research-related testing and treatment and interprets results obtained from diagnostic tests and laboratory studies. Provides counsel and education to patients and family members. Participates in clinical rounds and in meetings and conferences relating to study protocols and research. Completes in-depth documentation through written progress notes, dictation summaries and communication with referring physicians. Ensures compliance with applicable licensure and certification requirements, applicable healthcare standards, governmental laws and regulations, policies, procedures and philosophy in nature. Maintains and enhances clinical practice skills by attending, participating in and/or conducting staff professional development and continuing education programs. The candidate will perform a variety of technical procedures aimed at the induction and characterization of genetic events in newly generated mouse models. Duties include administration of drugs by IP, IV or oral gavage routes, performing complex survival surgeries,viral and/or cell injections by multiple routes, monitoring animal health status, and collection of body fluids and tissues. The ABCC provides technology development, scientific consultation, collaboration and training, and high-performance computing support to the NCI and NIH scientists and staff.<br/><br/>JOB DESCRIPTION<br/><br/>The Sr. NGS Bioinformatics Manager will manage and direct the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) group that currently supports the PacBio, Illumina, Roche/454, SOLiD, and Ion Torrent platforms.  The individual will also be tasked with strategic oversight of the NGS informatics operations including evaluation of new technologies and associated bioinformatics support needs. In addition, the successful candidate will lead efforts to consolidate, optimize and unify aspects of the workflow components and analysis capabilities, coordinate efforts between laboratory and informatics staff, liaison with investigators regarding results and changing needs. The successful candidate will be expected to establish strong cross-team efforts with other bioinformatics teams within the ABCC/ISP and FNL.<br/><br/><b>Qualifications:</b><br/>BASIC QUALIFICATIONS<br/><br/>- Possession of a Master&#8217;s degree from an accredited college/university in bioinformatics or a related field or six (6) years of experience in lieu of a degree.
